When I first started advising companies on AI integration, I often found myself drawing an odd comparison. Implementing AI is more like training a cat than a dog. This analogy might seem whimsical, but it captures a deep truth about AI adoption in business that has become even more apparent in 2024.

Traditional IT projects, like well-trained dogs, typically follow a structured, command-based approach. AI integration, however, requires patience, a deep understanding of its behavior, and a willingness to adapt. It’s this fundamental difference that sets AI apart in the world of business technology, and it’s a lesson that companies are learning in increasingly innovative ways.

Integrating Artificial Intelligence into a small, medium, or enterprise-size company is first and foremost an Intelligence project. Yes, it involves data, systems, computer power, and programs. But just because something has a tail, four paws, likes to lick and chew on things, doesn’t mean it is automatically a dog, and will act like one.
