This season of Advent and Hanukkah is the perfect time to contemplate what it truly means for us as individuals to live our lives with purpose. It’s a celebration of lights and following the star that guides you. This special period in which we have both closures from one year, yet a new start towards another touches the depths of our humanity. The question we should all be asking is, where will the light lead you? This is a time for new beginnings and growth; let yourself explore what it means to create flourishing futures.

As this year winds down, it is important to take stock of what has worked and hasn’t worked for us. This reflection can help us identify areas in need of improvement so that we can start the new year with hope and direction. I know for me, this past year was a season of change, transition, and rethinking. While uncomfortable at times, change is essential to following your light of flourishing. It can also open new doorways of seeing the world and ourselves in healthier, more expansive ways.

This time of year can also be the time when we ask the question, what is that I am spending my life on? Is the light I follow guiding me to a life of meaning and purpose? I have discovered through experience that a life of meaning and purpose has much less to do with WHAT you are doing, and more to do with HOW you are living. This could mean seeing the world through a lens of love, or having the courage to speak up for what matters to your soul. Listen with your heart wide open and allow yourself to connect deeply within and with others.

The holidays at the end of the year can also allow us to slow down, rest, be at peace.. and be in the moment. The results? It causes us to:

- Appreciate what we have

- Be more patient

- Communicate better

- Have better relationships

- Reduce stress and anxiety

Lastly, this season is an opportunity to experience and celebrate the joy of community and family. When human beings come together in a spirit of love and unity, beautiful things can happen. It can serve as a reminder that we all need each other, every day, throughout the year.

I hope you take this opportunity now, with me- to use these brief days between cycles wisely, be they spiritual or secular — to find direction and create lasting meaning that fulfills your soul!

Happy Holidays.
